Link: Scoop: Business and AUT create NZ's first sales major.
Vodafone, New Zealand Post, ANZ and AMP have partnered with AUT University to create New Zealand's first sales major for the Bachelor of Business degree.
This is great news for NZ business, if there is an area where NZ firms in general, and certainly startups are deficient by global standards, it is in sales. NZ has never treated sales as a profession and I personally think that is a shame. I find that candidates in NZ have the basic skills required for sales professional success, they focus on listening, they are likeable and they genuinely want to help their fellow man. But for too long, sales in NZ has been associated with the "used cars" mentality, instead of the "trusted advisor".
This new education initiative backed by some major industry players will help encourage people to look at sales as a profession and as a long-term career.
